Prior to starting my PhD with INSENS, I was with Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine, Göttingen, as a Research Assistant in Department of Neurogenetics. I received a Masters in Molecular Systems Biology from Aalto University, Finland and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden with an Erasmus Mundus Fellowship. I hold a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology from SRM University, India.
As part of my master thesis, I worked on establishing a transcriptome database and pathway profiling of brain cell types in mouse. My PhD project involves understanding the functional role of Transcription Factor 4 (Tcf4) and miR137, and its link in DISC1 pathway. TCF4 and miR137 is implicated as a Schizophrenia risk candidate in large scale GWAS. TCF4 is also targeted by miR137. To this date, not much is known about the functional role of TCF4 in neurons. I intend to understand the gain and loss of function of TCF4 and miR137 in neurons. To this end, I will employ various molecular, biochemical and cell biological assays such as LCM, FACS, next generation sequencing to identify the interaction partners and target genes of TCF4.
